Washington, 25. Januar (AFP) - US-Präsident George W. Bush reist Mitte Februar in fünf afrikanische Länder. Die Reise vom 15. bis 21 Februar führe Bush nach Benin, Tansania, Ruanda, Ghana und Liberia, teilte das Weiße Haus am Freitag mit. Im Mittelpunkt stünden die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung der Gastländer und ihr Kampf gegen Aids sowie andere Seuchen wie Malaria. Bush wolle sich "aus erster Hand" über die Wirkung von US-Programmen in diesem Bereich informieren. Außerdem solle es um demokratische Reformen, Menschenrechte und Freihandel gehen. Der US-Präsident, der nur noch ein knappes Jahr amtiert, war zuletzt 2003 in Afrika.
