Peking, 30. November (AFP) - Die Vereinten Nationen haben die Menschen in China vor einer allzugroßen Gleichgültigkeit im Umgang mit der Immunschwächekrankheit Aids gewarnt. Zwischen 30 und 50 Millionen Menschen in China liefen Gefahr, sich mit dem HIV-Virus zu infizieren, warnte der für China zuständige Koordinator von UNAIDS, Bernhard Schwartlander. Die Tatsache, dass sexuelle Kontakte zwischen Männern und Frauen in diesem Jahr mit 44,7 Prozent die Hauptursache für Neuinfektionen sei, sei alarmierend, sagte er.
Obwohl die Gesamtzahl von 700.000 Aidsinfektionen bei einer Gesamtbevölkerung von 1,3 Milliarden relativ gering erscheine, steige die Zahl der Neuinfektionen in immer mehr Gebieten Chinas an, warnte Schwartlander. Die zunehmende Zahl homosexuell aktiver Männer, eine expandierende Sexindustrie und der zunehmende Drogenkonsum in den vergangenen Jahren erhöhten ebenfalls die Gefahr einer weiteren Ausbreitung der Krankheit. "Zwar haben wir zurzeit weniger Infektionen als in vergangenen Jahren, aber das kann sich schnell wieder ändern", warnte der UNAIDS-Koordinator für China.
