Jakarta, 6. November (AFP) - Angesichts einer rasanten Ausbreitung des HIV-Virus plant Indonesien zum ersten Mal eine landesweite Werbekampagne für Kondome. Wie der Chef der Familienplanungsbehörde, Sugiri Syarief, am Dienstag in Jakarta mitteilte, sollen die Präservative der Bevölkerung nahegebracht werden, "um ungewollte Schwangerschaften und die Verbreitung von sexuell übertragenen Krankheiten besser zu vermeiden". Indonesien ist das bevölkerungsreichste muslimische Land der Welt mit konservativen Traditionen. Doch eine kürzliche Studie der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) und der Regierung in Jakarta ergab, dass das Land gegenwärtig die schnellste Verbreitung von HIV-Ansteckungen in ganz Asien hat.
Syarief räumte ein, dass die Werbung für Kondome viel Zeit und Geduld erfordern werde. Derzeit machen Präservative ein Prozent der eingesetzten Verhütungsmethoden in dem Inselstaat aus.
