Johannesburg, 29. Oktober (AFP) - Die altgedienten Popgrößen Annie Lennox und Peter Gabriel werden Anfang Dezember auf einem Wohltätigkeitskonzert zugunsten der Opfer der Immunseuche Aids auftreten. Wie die Nelson-Mandela-Stiftung am Montag in Johannesburg mitteilte, werden auf dem Benefiz-Konzert 46664 am 1. Dezember in der südafrikanischen Stadt neben internationalen Größen wie Corrinne Bailey Rae und den Goo Goo Dolls auch mehr als 40 der bekanntesten Musiker Südafrikas singen. Die Künstler, unter ihnen auch der Südafrikaner Johnny Clegg, wollten durch ihr Engagement die Botschaft Nelson Mandelas unterstützen, dass Aids kein lokales, sondern ein "universales" Problem sei, hieß es in einer Erklärung.
Seit 2002 fanden weltweit vier 46664-Konzerte statt. Der Name stammt von Mandelas Zellennummer im Gefängnis auf Robben Island, wo der Oppositionspolitiker 18 Jahre lang inhaftiert war.
