WASHINGTON, Dec 12 (AFP) - The World Bank on Tuesday approved a 50 million dollar interest-free credit to help Kenya improve its health care sector and step up the campaign against AIDS.
The bank in a statement here described HIV/AIDS as a "development crisis," noting that the prevalence rate for HIV among people in Kenya 15 to 49 years old has been increasing an average of 11 percent a year since 1990, reaching 13.9 percent in 1999.
The funds approved Tuesday will help authorities decentralize medical services, expand the scope of anti-AIDS activities and promote reproductive health.
