ADDIS ABABA, Oct 28 (AFP) - Ethiopian President Negasso Gidada has reiterated his call for a general mobilisation against AIDS in his country, official media said Saturday.

"Concerted efforts must be undertaken to mobilise the entire population to fight this fatal disease," Negasso said Friday, speaking in the capital Addis Ababa at a conference on AIDS prevention.

"Our struggle against the disease has not been properly organized," he said, acknowledging that AIDS would inflict "substantial social and economic losses" in the near future.

With at least three million people who are HIV-positive among a population of 60 million, Ethiopia is one of the countries on the African continent most affected by the disease, Negasso said in April.
