CALIFORNIA: Scaring Up Some Funds at AIDS Walk

The Desert AIDS Project's 22nd annual AIDS Walk on Saturday attracted more than 850 people, some of whom took part wearing Halloween costumes. "This event is important not only for the funds that it raises," said Barry Dayton, DAP's spokesperson, but also as proof of "the critical mass of people that support HIV/AIDS services." He said DAP aimed to raise $325,000 from the event to replace funds lost due to state budget cuts. In particular, $75,000 is needed to purchase HIV test kits so 5,000 people can be tested for the virus.
