ILLINOIS: Ex-Surgeon General Speaks About AIDS

Bradenton Herald (Florida) (12.11.2006) - Friday, December 15, 2006
Carolyn P. Smith (Belleville News-Democrat)

Dr. Joycelyn Elders, who served as US surgeon general in the Clinton administration, was the keynote speaker on Sunday at the "HIV/AIDS and Health Awareness Worship" event at Trinity United Methodist Church in East St. Louis. Elders called on churches to play a bigger role in getting HIV prevention information to the black community, and she thanked the state of Illinois for providing testing for HIV at the event. She called abstinence a wonderful idea but said humans are sexual beings from birth, and she called on people who are sexually active to use condoms.
