UGANDA: Ugandan, Sudanese Ministers Exchange Ideas on Fight Against AIDS Epidemic

On Monday, Ugandan Health Minister Jim Muhwezi and his Sudanese counterpart, Ahmed Bilal Osman, met in Kampala to discuss HIV/AIDS prevention and exchange ideas. At the meeting, Osman said the number of Sudanese living with HIV/AIDS is increasing, especially among women and youth, because of the conflict in southern Sudan. "There is also a problem of condom use among the citizens and that is what we have come to learn from you so that we can apply it in our country," said Osman. Muhwezi said concerted efforts and determination are needed to stop HIV/AIDS' spread. Muhwezi said among the most pressing challenges is the fact that antiretroviral drugs are still unaffordable for many.
