Pulaski County with Highest AIDS Rate

Pulaski County, Ark., has the highest number of HIV/AIDS cases reported in the state from 1983 to June 2001, according to a survey released by the Regional AIDS Interfaith Network. The survey - compiled by the State Health Department - shows that Pulaski County had the most cases, with 1,095 from 1983 through June 2001. During that same period, Washington County reported the second-highest case total, with 244, and Benton County had 97 confirmed cases. The data shows that 94 percent of reported cases are male and 64 percent are white. The survey was released Thursday by RAIN, a non-profit organization for people with AIDS.
