Arizona health officials are warning that syphilis is returning to Maricopa County, which had the fifth highest caseload in the United States last year, according to a newspaper report. The county recorded more than 364 cases of syphilis in 1998, and over 340 people the Phoenix area have been diagnosed with the sexually transmitted disease this year.
