The AIDS epidemic in Africa has prompted African American leaders in the United States to address the crisis. Former congressman Ron Dellums, head of the advocacy group Constituency for Africa, wants to call attention in America to Africa's AIDS problem. In addition, Eugene Rivers of the 21st Century Group is planning a series of national forums that seek to increase awareness, political advocacy, and humanitarian assistance for AIDS in both Africa and the United States. Rivers says a key focus should be on the role of promiscuity in HIV transmission.
