Efforts to Ease World Poverty Urged

President Clinton, speaking about the world's population reaching 6 billion, said Tuesday that his administration has invested about $6 billion in health and population programs for more than 100 countries, and the United States would continue to help. These program have focused on such issues as HIV prevention and family planning. Clinton said that nations must work diligently to stop the poverty common in so many countries. The impact of rapid population growth on the environment and quality of life should be considered, he said.
