Man in Court for Alleged AIDS Spreading

Abstract: Two preliminary hearings will be held in Michigan on Tuesday to determine whether James Wallace Jones, a 33-year-old drifter with AIDS, will go to trial for failing to inform a partner about his HIV status and for third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. Jones is also being charged under a state law against "sexual delinquency," which includes spreading HIV, and can result in a sentence of up to life in jail. Ten of Jones' alleged sex partners have been tested for HIV, but Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Dennis LaBelle notes that it may never be known whether any of them contracted HIV because the test results are being kept confidential by law.
