Man Who Stole HIV Files to Resign

Abstract: William Calvert, the Florida public health worker fired for using a government database to screen his dates for HIV, will be able to resign under an agreement reached with the state on Monday. Calvert will resign on Dec. 31 and will receive his full salary until that date. The controversy surrounding the man is based on an anonymous letter sent to two newspapers that accused him of showing the database to friends at a bar. Thus far, Calvert has denied taking the computer disk containing the database to the bar, though he admits to using the information to check out dates. The worker was fired in October and was scheduled to appeal the action this week, but that move was later called off because of the high cost involved.
