"Together in a Life With AIDS"

Toronto Globe and Mail (12/21/91), P. A1
Sarick, Lila

Abstract: Members of the Newman family of London, Ontario plan to keep their spirits high this Christmas, the last one they may be spending together. Kim and Rob Newman, who have AIDS along with two of their three children, believe they were exposed to the virus through unprotected sex before they met. Since they began openly discussing the disease in late October, the Newmans say they have experienced both hostility and understanding from their neighbors. To cope with AIDS, the family works together to keep normalcy in their family routine and participates in the AIDS Committee of London, a non-profit support group which helped them start the Robby Care Fund, set up to provide financial assistance for families with HIV-positive children and to support research on pediatric AIDS. They are currently working with the Sunshine Foundation, which grants wishes to children who are seriously ill, to arrange a trip to Disney World.
