"Around the Region: Letter Says Woman is Spreading AIDS"

Washington Post (12/16/91), P. C4

Abstract: A woman who supposedly infected as many as 150 men with HIV has written a letter disclosing the incident. The letter was received by The Progress-Index and was seemingly written by a woman living in the Petersburg area who acquired HIV through sex with multiple partners. The woman known as "Lady X" says she is angry and seeking revenge. She claims to be having sex with single and married black men from the Fort Lee military installation. The letter reads, "Now I am angry at myself and the world. The only way I know how to fight back is to give it to others. I frequent bars and clubs in search of my prey." The Progress-Index submitted the one-page letter to Petersburg police, who say they are seriously dealing with the matter. A similar letter from a Dallas woman was published in September's Ebony magazine, but police later determined it to be a hoax.
