Abstract: Contrary to John Hale's statements in "Imagine, 7,137,360 Condoms" (Times Op-Ed, 12/18) Planned Parenthood of New York City does not sell contraceptives to organizations and would not make a tidy profit" supplying condoms to high schools for distribution to teenagers, writes E.H. Elahi, medical director of Planned Parenthood of New York City, in a letter to the New York Times. Planned Parenthood supports Chancellor Joseph Fernandez's anti-AIDS plan because "it addresses the crisis head on," Elahi writes. That teenagers have sex is a reality which must be addressed because of the risk of HIV and because New York City has the highest rate of adolescents with AIDS in the United States, Elahi writes. Teens need AIDS prevention information and access to condoms, Elahi concludes.
