Abstract: A United Nations Development Program (UNDP) study predicts that the number of HIV-infected women will overtake the number of infected men by the mid-1990s. The number of afflicted women is already larger than the number of affected men in sub-Saharan Africa. Men are at more risk of HIV infection through IV drug use, but women are at risk through unprotected sex with drug users. AIDS is becoming a disease of youth as well as one of women, the report predicts--at least half of all those infected are under 25 years old.
