Abstract: A compromise on proposed 1991 budget cuts for the nation's AIDS programs, the National Institutes of Health, and FDA has been reached by Louis Sullivan, secretary of Health and Human Services, and the Office of Management and Budget. Following a heated dispute, AIDS programs were funded at $1.7 billion, a compromise between Sullivan's $1.75 request and OMB Director Richard Darman's $1.6 proposal. AIDS activists, however, are disappointed at the $100 million increase above lastyears approved budget ($1.6 billion), calling the increase much too meager. Gregory King, communications director for the Human Rights Campaign Fund, says the AIDS budget should be "at least double" the amount.
