Abstract: Drugs, prostitution, bad personal hygiene, and a lack of knowledge are contributing to the spread of sexually transmitted diseases in Prince Georges County, Md. "I don't believe people really understand the significance of what can happen in the sexual encounters, as far as their own health," said Dr. Helen McAllister of the Prince George's County Health Dept., mentioning AIDS, gonorrhea and syphilis. "There's a greatdeal of ignorance still about the transmission of sexual diseases," said McAllister. Prince George's County officials areeducating sexually active residents through school programs, cable television advertising, and public service advertising efforts.
