"Teaching the Teachers"

Lancet (12/16/89) Vol. 2, No. 8677, P. 1467

Abstract: Unmasking AIDS" is a new video by the International Planned Parenthood Foundation (IPPF) designed to overcome AIDS communication problems and make people change their sexual behavior. The video shows how group discussion, role play, drama, puppetry, and masks can overcome obstacles to change caused by difficulties with communicating about AIDS. The 45-minute video aims to highlight approaches to teaching about AIDS for family planning workers, youth leaders, and other health educators. The communication ideas, such as using drama to educate teens, can be extended to any group in any culture. A training manual to accompany the video will become available this year, and the video will be distributed free of charge to family planning associations worldwide. Other groups will be able to buy the video package. For more information, interested persons can contact Gill Gordon, AIDS Prevention Unit, IPPF, Regents College, Inner Circle, Regents Park, London, NW1 4NS.
