Abstract: The San Francisco earthquake left all of the Bay Area's AIDS agencies severely short of money and volunteers. As a result of the quake, the need is greater, as are the number of groups requiring help. As donors consider holiday giving, agencies are encouraging people to consider gifts of time as well as money. As an example of the problem, the Shanti Project is short 30 volunteers....To further make clear that HIV is not spread through casual contact, George and Barbara Bush visited AIDS patients at the National Institutes for Health, shaking the hands of adults and hugging children. One small child kissed the president's cheek.
