"AIDS Film Benefits AIDS Victims"

Boston--"Mother, Mother" is a 30-minute film that will raise money for community AIDS help organizations. Micki Dickoff, a teacher at Boston's Emerson College and a producer of documentaries and public service announcements for 15 years, wrote and directed the story, which is about a man dying of AIDS and his mother, who rejected him when she learned he was gay. Dickoff met hundreds of people with AIDS while she filmed "Too Little, Too Late," a documentary about the reaction of family and friends to the disease. The cast of the drama, which includes Polly Bergen, John Dye, Bess Armstrong, and Piper LAUrie, worked for free. In all, more than 350 people donated time and technical support to the movie. John Hancock Financial Services came up with $55,000. Following its Jan. 6 premier at Boston's John Hancock Hall, the film will appear at fundraisers in New York, Los Angeles, and Washington to benefit local nonprofit AIDS organizations. After that, other non-profit AIDS groups will be able to use it for their own fundraisers. The film has also been nominated for Academy Award consideration in the short subjects-live action category.
