"Who Says This is Funny?"

Gaydos, Steven
AIDS Activists, politicians, and entertainers have attacked Warner Brothers for releasing "Have You Seen Me Lately," a comedy album by Sam Kinison. The album contains such anti-gay material as a piece accusing homosexuals of starting the AIDS epidemic by having sex with monkeys. BecAUse of the album, Surgeon General C. Everett Koop distanced himself from "Musicians for Life," a National AIDS Network-sponsored Warner's program to produce public service announcements about AIDS. Koop spokesman Jim Brown said, "You can't do something positive like 'Musicians for Life' with one hand while putting out dangerous misinformation like this album with the other hand." Warner's met with AIDS activists before the album's Nov. 7 release date, but released "Have You Seen Me Lately" on time, promising to include a flier with AIDS information in all copies of the record after the initial 75,000-copy release. Kinson refused an offer for an interview with the Advocate.
