UNAIDS Appoints Deborah Landey As New Deputy Executive Director

Geneva - The Executive Director of UNAIDS, Dr Peter Piot, today announced the appointment of Ms Deborah Landey, currently the United Nations Resident Coordinator to the Philippines, as the new Deputy Executive Director of UNAIDS.

Ms Landey first joined the United Nations in 1978, serving in many capacities, including UN Resident Coordinator to Botswana, 1995-1997, Director of the Office of Human Resources, Bureau of Management, UNDP and as Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Bureau of Management, UNDP, from 2001 to 2003. She became UN Resident Coordinator to the Philippines in 2003.

Commenting on Ms Landey's appointment, Dr Peter Piot said, "I am delighted to welcome Debbie Landey to the UNAIDS Secretariat. As Deputy Executive Director, she will play a key strategic role in supporting me in leading the senior management of the UNAIDS Secretariat. Her exemplary management and country level experience in driving greater UN coordination and effectiveness will be of prime importance to UNAIDS as we move forward."

Ms Landey is a Canadian national and has a Masters of Arts degree in International Affairs from the School of International Affairs, Carleton University, Canada, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of London.
