Life Style by Pamela Fishman Cianci

San Francisco Examiner - September 12, 2005

The Event: The kickoff party for the 10th Annual Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Festival benefiting Project Open Hand, which serves meals and delivers groceries to critically ill people, seniors and those living with HIV/AIDS in San Francisco and Alameda counties.

The Venue: Ghirardelli Square at the corner of Beach and Larkin streets. Guests mingled in the open courtyard surrounded by shops, while sipping chocolate martinis made from SKYY Vodka and Vermeer Chocolate Cream, beer from Bison Brewing Company and wine from Wattle Creek Winery. Hors d'oeuvres from neighboring restaurant Ana Mandara and, of course, chocolate treats provided by Ghirardelli Chocolate were served.

The Look: Business casual all around. Most people came from the office in their suits or slacks and sweaters. Several women wore skirts and boots. Hugo Boss was a favorite among the men and many women wore Theory tops and pants.

The Crowd: Artists, photographers, doctors, lawyers, designers, stylists, philanthropists, politicians, mothers, radio personalities and small-business owners caught up with one another while supporting a local cause.

The Buzz: Artist Michael Schwab's limited edition signed 10th anniversary poster, the chocolate drinks and treats and the celebration of two San Francisco institutions.
