San Francisco Examiner - November 5, 2004
In many ways, this proposal represents the overall tug-of-war between San Francisco tenant advocates and Realtors and property owners. On one hand is a legitimate desire to protect vulnerable tenants who are elderly or who have AIDS, and on the other is a reasonable desire for people to be able to buy homes in The City.
That struggle often devolves into all-or-nothing rhetoric from both sides. We hope the Board of Supervisors will keep in mind that all the parties involved have a right to be heard and that there is no magic bullet or quick fix. Housing is too important to be about politics, and there must be plenty of time for all parties to contribute to an open dialog before trying any solution.
