2nd Annual AIDS Day Ecumenical Service
More Than A Dozen Organizations Join Together
For the past 18 years, World AIDS Day has focused global attention on the HIV/AIDS pandemic. This year marked the 25th anniversary since HIV was first recognized, and the fight is not over. The 2nd Annual AIDS Day Ecumenical Service brings local churches and community-based organizations together on World AIDS Day under the global theme, "Stop AIDS, Keep the Promise."
The event, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Ferndale, begins with a spaghetti dinner, a candlelight vigil and procession to Zion Lutheran Church, also in Ferndale on Albany Street near Nine Mile and Woodward Avenue. A 7 p.m. religious service at Zion, with up to six local choirs, will be followed by an extensive reception downstairs. Suggested donation for the spaghetti dinner is $6. Funds raised through donations go to Steppin' Out Detroit, Midwest AIDS Prevention Project, and Wonderful Animals Giving Support (WAGS).
"The Midwest AIDS Prevention Project is excited to work with so many organizations on the collaborative event. Together, we can pool our efforts to make a greater impact," said Craig Covey, MAPP Director and Ferndale Councilman.
