-- M.A.C President and M.A.C AIDS Fund Chairman John Demsey to speak at The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) Conference In Washington, D.C. On World AIDS Day
NEW YORK, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The M.A.C AIDS Fund, the charitable arm of M.A.C, the rule-breaking professional cosmetics company, announced that it has raised more than $40 million. This year the M.A.C AIDS Fund marks its 10th year fighting against HIV/AIDS and providing vital support to men, women and children living with the disease.
Last February marked the launch of VIVA GLAM V Lipstick and Lipglass, the primary fund-raising tools for the M.A.C AIDS Fund where 100% of the sales directly benefits people living with HIV/AIDS. Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliott, Linda Evangelista, Chloe Sevigny, and Boy George were named as the latest spokespeople for the VIVA GLAM V campaign. The neutral pink with pearl lipglass ($13.50 US / $16.00 CDN) and the lustre lipstick ($14.00 US / $16.00 CDN) hit M.A.C's 750 locations around the world, with 100 percent of the sales directly benefiting the M.A.C AIDS Fund. In the months since the initial launch, VIVA GLAM V has raised a phenomenal $8 million towards the fight against HIV/AIDS.
In addition to the VIVA GLAM lipsticks and lipglass, the M.A.C AIDS Fund raises additional funds each year through the sale of Kids Helping Kids Cards and the newly introduced VIVA GLAM Compact, which are sold exclusively for the holiday season.
On World AIDS Day, December, 1, 2004, M.A.C President and M.A.C AIDS Fund Chairman John Demsey will speak at The International Center for Research on Women's (ICRW) luncheon forum on "Empowered Women are the Key to Halting the AIDS Pandemic" in Washington D.C. Keynote speakers will include Dr. Geeta Rao Gupta, president, International Center for Research on Women, Peter Piot, executive director UNAIDS, Asunta Wagura, executive director, Kenya Network of Women Living with AIDS, and Dr. Khuat Thu Hong, director, Institute for Social Development Studies, Vietnam. That same night Mr. Demsey will be honored at an intimate and unique evening with Alicia Keys and special guests on World AIDS Day, by Keep A Child Alive.
"At first, many people were surprised that a company like M.A.C Cosmetics would choose AIDS as their cause, but it was an obvious connection for us. Leadership in the AIDS arena can come from all sectors. The $40 million we've raised in the last 10 years, $8 million of which we raised with the help of our new spokespeople and through the sales of our lipsticks, is a tremendous milestone for us. It also demonstrates the impact that we, as individuals and as a company, can have in fighting this disease," said John Demsey, M.A.C President and M.A.C AIDS Fund Chairman.
