Healthy Love or Destructive Obsession? Author of New Book Honored as a 2002 'Visionary'

PRNewswire - December 28, 2002

CHICAGO, Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- John D. Moore, a 32-year old therapist and professor of health sciences at American Public University announced today that Liberation Publications has identified him as a 2002 "Visionary" for his work in the social services field as it relates to HIV/AIDS. Moore is the author of a newly released book entitled: Confusing Love with Obsession -- When You Can't Stop Controlling Your Partner & the Relationship. Others who were identified as visionaries by Liberation Publications for 2002 include former President William Jefferson Clinton & Nelson Mandela.

"I am extremely honored to have been selected as a 2002 visionary by Liberation Publications," says Moore. "The issue of becoming obsessed with another person can have grave consequences -- both emotionally & physically.

It is my hope that readers of 'Confusing Love' will begin to understand a problem that is widely undetected and often misunderstood."

In the February edition of HIV PLUS MAGAZINE (A research & treatment journal published by Liberation Publications) an excerpt from Moore's book discusses the problem of those who, as Moore puts it, "Confuse Love With Sex."

According to the author, People Who Confuse Love with Obsession may:

* Attempt to control a partner using money, sex and emotions.

* Try to control a partner using "psychological violence."

* Use alcohol or drugs to medicate the pain after a relationship collapses.

* Seek validation from a love interest, regardless of compatibility.

* May have sex with others in order to "seek out revenge" for acts of perceived infidelity.

* Stalk, harass and become violent with a partner in an effort to exert control.

Using a series of riveting case studies involving men and women, the book introduces readers to people who have developed an unhealthy attachment to a love interest.

American Health & Fitness Magazine has already heralded Confusing Love as a "Must Read."

Moore has developed a model for this problem called Obsessive Relational Progression (ORP) which outlines and details the specific behaviors of a person who Confuses Love with Obsession as illustrated through his Obsessive Love Wheel (OLW) as part of a disease he calls Relational Dependency.
