Primagen's Mitox tests measure both mitochondrial DNA and RNA in relation to mitochondrial toxicity related disease caused by HIV-1 treatment.

The presentation at the HIV-1 DART conference in Florida, highlighted the technical performance of the mitochondrial nucleic acid quantification tests of Primagen and discussed the clinical implications and predictive value of the assays. Mitochondrial nucleic acid appears to be a marker for antiviral efficacy of the therapy, balanced with the adverse effects of therapy due to mitochondrial toxicity. Mitox can become an important tool in the management of patient therapy in predicting toxicity, on the basis of which modifications of therapy can be considered and adverse clinical symptoms can possibly be avoided, thereby improving the individual patient's quality of life.
