Four-Wheel Drive Vehicles Needed to Deliver Critical Meals to People Living with HIV/AIDS and Other Life-Threatening Illnesses: Food & Friends Can't Close During Bad Weather

PRNewswire - December 29, 2000

WASHINGTON, Dec. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Food & Friends, an organization that delivers critical nutritious meals to people living with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses throughout the Washington Metropolitan area, is planning ahead to have enough volunteers during upcoming winter storms.

Food & Friends must continue to deliver meals and groceries to persons living with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses despite bad weather conditions. During storms, many volunteer delivery drivers call in and cancel, leaving Food & Friends with limited resources to deliver meals.

"Our clients depend on these meals to stay healthy," says Craig Shniderman, Executive Director, who in fact has a four-wheel drive truck of his own. "Regardless of the weather conditions, we have to work together to meet the needs of our clients. Everyone on our staff has been busy planning all of our deliveries, but we desperately need more volunteers."

Volunteers with four-wheel drive vehicles are being lined up in advance to ensure that every client will be reached. Persons with four-wheel drive vehicles that are willing to make deliveries to people living with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses are asked to call 202-488-8278.

Food & Friends will be delivering meals on a critical need basis, delivering extra meals known as "storm bags" to ensure each person has enough food, just in case the weather conditions worsen.
