Volunteers From Bay Area Jewish Community Lend a Hand to Feed 1,200 People With Aids and Seniors on Christmas Day

PRNewswire - December 23, 1999

For the eighth year in a row, nearly 100 representatives from Congregation Shav 'ar Zahav and Jewish Family and Children's Services will be preparing festive holiday meals for Project Open Hand clients. The preparation, packaging and delivery of over 1,200 holiday meals will be done by the Jewish community on both Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day. The volunteers do everything from chopping vegetables in the morning to packaging meals in the afternoon and delivering the meal in the early evening. A whole day of love fills every meal.

That this is the eighth year of Christmas collaboration between Project Open Hand and the Jewish community speaks volumes of their dedication and commitment.

Every year nearly 5,000 men, women and children in San Francisco and Alameda counties are provided with meals, groceries and nutrition counseling by Project Open Hand. Over 3,500 San Francisco seniors receive congregate lunch from Project Open Hand yearly. At least 125 volunteers are needed everyday to help provide these "Meals with Love."
