"We are pleased that thousands of people attend USCA each year and we are thrilled that WebMD has made it possible for hundreds of thousands of people to take part in the conference this year via the Internet," said Paul Kawata, Executive Director of NMAC, the organization that sponsors USCA. "The more people who become familiar with the issues that USCA addresses, the greater chance we have in our struggle against the AIDS epidemic," added Mr. Kawata.
All of the plenary sessions at USCA, each followed by interactive discussions for Internet viewers with the plenary speakers, will be featured in real-time on the Web site (schedule follows below). This year's keynote speakers are U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D. and Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, Peter Piot, M.D. Other speakers include the Reverend Jesse Jackson, actress and singer Sheryl Lee Ralph, who appears in the highly successful sitcom "Moesha," as well as mayors from a number of African cities who will speak about the state of the AIDS epidemic in their continent. For those unable to attend the live Webcasts, the events will be archived on WebMD's site and available immediately following the event.
"We are happy to be able to make valuable events such as USCA available to a wider audience and to encourage greater involvement from the AIDS community through interactive forums," said Jeff Arnold, chairman and CEO of WebMD.
In addition to the Webcast of USCA, WebMD also plans to award five grants of $1,500 to AIDS service organizations that have tackled tough local issues with dedication, compassion and originality. Organizations can apply for these grants via the website http://aids.webmd.com. The awards will be announced on World AIDS Day, December 1, 1999.

About the National Minority AIDS Council
The National Minority AIDS Council was formed in 1987 to develop leadership within communities of color to address the issues of HIV/AIDS. Its constituency is composed of more than 3,000 community-based organizations that deal with AIDS on the front lines -- in hospitals, clinics, shelters, schools, storefronts and the streets. Thousands of men and women of color rely on such organizations for outreach, care, education, housing and support services. NMAC's goals are to lend visibility, leadership, educational messages, and materials, comprehensive technical assistance and a powerful national voice to these front line workers. NMAC can be reached through its Web site at http://www.nmac.org.
