Japanese Patent Office Issues Patent To CEL-SCI Corporation On AIDS Diagnostic Kit

PR Newswire, 810 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10019 - Wednesday, 13 November 1996

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- CEL-SCI CORPORATION (Nasdaq: CELI) announces today that the Japanese Patent Office has issued a patent on the diagnostic use of CEL-SCI's HGP-30 technology in AIDS. Japan constitutes one of the largest pharmaceutical markets in the world and is a major gateway into Asia, an area with rapid HIV growth.

The HGP-30 diagnostic test for AIDS is currently being developed at the University of Maryland with a grant from the State of Maryland. The overall purpose of this project is to develop an ELISA based diagnostic kit which measures levels of antibodies binding to HIV-1 p17 peptides in serum.

CEL-SCI hopes to ultimately use the test as a routine monitoring test for disease progression in HIV infected adults and children. CEL-SCI believes that an ELISA based test would be easier and cheaper to use than the current PCR test.

CEL-SCI Corporation is a pioneer in the field of natural immunotherapy. The Company is developing immune based treatments for cancer, AIDS and tuberculosis.

Recently, CEL-SCI Corporation signed a collaborative agreement with the U.S. Navy to jointly develop a malaria vaccine as well as a collaboration agreement with Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine to jointly develop a herpes vaccine.
