New Group Started to Address AIDS and the Church

PR Newswire - November 30, 1995

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The formation of an A.I.D.S. support group network called "He Intends Victory (H.I.V.) Outreach" is being announced in observance of World AIDS Day 1995. The organization has the goal of helping the Michigan Christian community by providing Bible-based support to those who are dealing with HIV or AIDS.

H.I.V. Outreach was founded by Dave Conklin, a political news reporter who entered public service as Communication Director for Secretary of State Candice Miller. Conklin was diagnosed with full-blown AIDS last March.

He subsequently retired from public service to dedicate his last days to a new outreach to conservative Christian congregations. Conklin adds, he hopes the ministry will foster compassionate prayerful service to people suffering from HIV/AIDS.

This could be the church's finest hour, said Conklin. He adds H.I.V. Outreach will be a conduit for educational resources and as a catalyst for pastors, churches and community groups seeking to minister.
