Project Emergencia celebrates 5 years

Project Emergencia - August 20, 2009

New York, New York - Project Emergencia, a Web site by artist Alfredo Jaar, is thriving now in its fifth year. With this online intervention, Jaar seeks to instill in people a poignant sense of awareness of the African AIDS crisis such that it is impossible for them not to act.

The web site uses stunning graphics and arresting truths to confront the visitor with the gravity of AIDS in Africa. At the end of a simple and informative interactive presentation, Jaar directs the visitor to several effective organizations so that the visitor may take action.

In the 5 years since its creation, Project Emergencia has already successfully reached a wide audience and continues to gain popularity. With the assistance of his new project director Beatrix Carroll, Jaar is now setting out to strengthen Project Emergencia's status as a point of connection between the multitude of NGOs for site visitors interested in this important issue.

Alfredo Jaar is an artist, architect, and filmmaker who lives and works in New York. His work has been shown extensively around the world and he has created more than fifty Public Interventions. His work is currently on display at the Fowler Museum in Los Angeles, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, and Daros Exhibitions in Zurich.
