As the number of HIV-infected prisoners continues to increase in the United States, correctional medical systems struggle to provide adequate medical care. The very nature of providing adequate HIV treatment presents formidable obstacles for correctional medical systems that face inherent fiscal, political, and social indifference. HIV-infected prisoners are therefore forced to seek judicial intervention through the maze of HIV prison litigation.
