When PLWHAs faced reductions and disruptions in access to food stamps and other resources in New York City-which continues to report the highest rate and number of AIDS cases in the nation-we conducted a descriptive study to identify unmet meal and food service needs of PLWHA in the city's five boroughs. This study took place between November 1997 and April 1999. Altogether, 1,511 PLHWA participated in this convenience-sample assessment.
