With few resources available to combat the spread of infection, and in the absence of a cure, the duration and intensity of the epidemic will depend, first, on the analysts' ability to identify those at the highest risk of acquiring and transmitting the infection and, second, on the epidemiologists' acumen in molding prevention strategies directed at these individuals. The authors analyze the epidemiologic data currently available from the CDC.
