The HIV Epidemic: Colorado's Traditional Approach to Disease Control

AIDS & Public Policy Journal 2, no. 3 (Summer-Fall 1987): 33-36
Thomas Vernon

Methods of disease control that are productive and widely accepted for other infections are not applied widely to combat HIV. In some areas, traditional methods have been rejected explicitly by rule or statute. It is not the purpose of this article to attempt an analysis of why that is occurring, much less why "AIDS is different." Rather, my purpose is to outline Colorado's public health approach to the HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) epidemic, an approach that applies some of the traditional strategies of disease control, despite any differences imposed by AIDS.
