Federal Poverty Guidelines

  • Federal Poverty Guidelines 2008
These guidelines help to determine if you are eligible for different federal and state programs.
  • Patient Assistance Programs

pillsPatient Assistance Programs : Sometimes a state has an ADAP waiting list, or you must look for other resources. Don't drop your insurance coverage or COBRA premiums without first seeing if your state will cover part or the whole premium or drug cost co-pays. Apply to get Medicaid or Medicare or private insurance with the help of your case manager. You might also need to try a Patient Assistance Program. The pharmaceutical industry has set up programs that offer medications for free, or sometimes at a very low price. You may have to apply directly to a specific company. Your doctor or another member of your health care team like a case manager will usually help you out to apply, and you may need to apply to more than one company for the treatments you need. If you have HIV and/or chronic hepatitis, we can usually help you.

    ADAP Eligibility (Drug Assistance Program)

    • Below 300% poverty line
    • Resident of Kansas
    • Proof of HIV status
    • 6 months renewal and recertification required
    • not eligible for Medicaid (ADAP is run by Kansas Medicaid) or other prescription drug plans
    • Not be institutionalized, or living in a facility that primarily provides medical or health care services

    Insurance Premiums and Co-pays

The Kansas Health Insurance Assistance (KHIA) Program is designed to assist clients who are returning to work and/or are currently employed yet do have stability to maintain the financial responsibilities associated with group coverage. Services are available to all eligible Title II clients who currently have or are in the process of obtaining private health insurance and are directly related to the utilization of medications through the Kansas AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP). All enrollment is referred by Kansas Title II Case Management sites (see link above) or to the Kansas Health Insurance Assistance Program Manager at (785) 296-8701

    Reimbursement

    • Premium assistance Clients eligible for premium assistance through the KHIA can have the cost of their portion of the premium reimbursed through their employer, their insurance beneficiary or their enrolled community-based organization. All premiums are made quarterly in order to ensure credible coverage throughout the year

    • Co-pay assistance Clients eligible for co-pay/co-insurance assistance through the KHIA may have their portion of co-pays reimbursed by the Kansas Ryan White Title II ADAP on formulary medications only. The client will be provided a Kansas Ryan White Title II Participant Card for the co-payment portion to be reimbursed; however, the private insurance MUST be the primary billing source
