Prevention and control of HIV/AIDS at workplaces.

BACKGROUND: HIV/AIDS prevention and control can potentially reach an enormous number of people between the agesOf 18 and 50 years, who are socially and economically active. Most companies assist on continuos prevention communication programs. METHOD: The Kenyan government in conjunction with HIV/AIDS support groups for example PLWHAS, Conducts intervention programs in workplaces in partnership with companies so as to reach workers and their families. Based on this experience and its evaluation, they discuss challenges faced in promoting employer's involvement and strategies that have been implemented to overcome the barriers to HIV/AIDSIntervention. RESULTS: The partnership that has maintained a continuos HIV/AIDS prevention and control program in the workplaces is restricted to staff incharge and not usually shared openly between the employers and employees.

CONCLUSION: Joint partnerships between government and employers leads to development of an efficient workplace program for HIV/AIDS prevention. Full support from employers and their employees, brings great impact on HIV/AIDS intervention and prevention.
