Community technique of approach as regards of STIs /VIH/AIDS prevention in rural area.

ISSUES: The rural populations are underprivileged as for the diffusion of the messages of prevention on the STIs /VIH/AIDS; because they are often very far away from information sources and also illiterates. To mitigate that, RRCI initiated educational film projections on the STIs /VIH/AIDS with accompanying notes in local language. Description from January to June 2003: a team of 4 persons (1 coordinator, 2 organizers and 1 technician) organized projections in 2 rural zones of 12 villages each. The meetings took place as follows: pre test / film projection / people worked in focus groups ( Men- women-boys -girls) debates in focus groups / post test. Lessons learned sensitized populations 18 600. Rate of participation: boys 37% - girls 29% - men 21% - women 13%, Projection numbers: 24 (2 per village) Numbers of focus groups carried out: 192 (8 per village). Pre test: Knowledge of disease (51%),Mode of transmission (08%),Prevention (23%),Use of condoms (12%). Post test: Knowledge of disease (87This technique of the visual audio associated the comment in local language permitted a strong mobilization of the populations during the campaigns. Therefore debates in focus groups showed to the interest of the populations regarding STIs /VIH/AIDS concerns in their respective areas. Recommendations we intend in a future time to organise support and information groups in each village after training people in prevention techniques and development of sensitising messages%),Mode of transmission (63%)Prevention (79%),Use of condoms (46%).
