METHODS: One-group pretest-posttest study design was used. After the pretest, all the participants received the education program that included a 15 minutes video and 30 minutes lecture on HIV/AIDS. After this education session, all the participants were requested to fill out the post-test. Findings: A total of 1,522 questionnaires were collected with 1,020 (67.0%) completed. Eighty-six percent of participants were married, with age between 30 to 49 years old. Sixty-four percent of participants indicated that the HIV virus could have infected them during performing their duties. The average score of participates on the pre-test is 14.3 (SD = 3.3) and the post-test is 16.6 (SD = 3.4) with total 22. The results of ANOVA tests indicated that age, education, and possible being infected had statistically difference in the level of pre-test HIV/AIDS knowledge but no difference in the knowledge gain after HIV/AIDS education. Pair-t tests revealed a statistically significant improvement in knowledge score after the education program (t = 23.24, p<.001).
CONCLUSIONS: The study findings confirmed the police officers receiving HIV/AIDS education increased their knowledge. The long-term effects of this HIV/AIDS education program on the incident of HIV/AIDS among police officers need to be explored.
