ISSUES: AIDS and drug addiction are the most serious health problems facing the world today. Almost of people involved(75-90%)to these problems aged 20-45 years,that is time of development,blooming and social activities,Also numbers them are to growing. Many of social crimes(robbery,felony..) are related to the addiction, But there is an important subject about addiction, Relationship between prevalence IVdrug using (IVDUs) and raising incidence of HIV, because the main way for HIV transmission is IVDU in many countries.
DESCRIPTION: Iran has about 3 milions drug addicts that about 300000 of them are IVDUs,a reason is neighbours with the largest source producing opium and other narcotics in the World(Afghanistan). Most of IVDUs have a low cultural and economic level, corruption and irresponsible in ethic, that Infected IVDUs can transmit AIDS by high risk sexual behavior in addition to injecting way with contaminated shared syringes. It means they are hidden HIV source for community. With due attention to over 65-70%of HIV transmission is by IVDUs in Iran,control of them have a great role in prevention of AIDS. Also, in many countries that sex is the most common way for HIV transmission,IV drug abusing is second way to transmit HIV. Lesson learned: One of important ways for prevention of AIDS in many developing countries is control of IVDUs. Therefore,effective activities against HIV are about different from western countries that sexual way is the most common way. According to this research, Recommend: 1)Education to afflicted HIV and high risk people about: complications and transmission ways of AIDS(esp risks of IVDUs) 2)Use of international experiences and programs(needle exchange,bleach programs,abstain,faithfull to wife,use condom,..)and a global campaign against HIV and addiction(IVDUs) 3)Learning parents,social and religious native leaders for supervision and emotional support of youth 4)Collecting drug addicts for giving up addiction then support socioeconomically them
