Mentality of PLWHA and affected families in the slum-based poorest of poor community.

DESCRIPTION: John Paul Slum Development Project is secular voluntary organisation basically working for the well being of slum dwelling PLWHA in Pune-India for those who are socially-economically downtrodden and neglected by the community wherein prevalence and incidence rate is on hike day to day due to their ignorance and mentality towards the HIV/AIDS issue. Findings: While devoting ourselves in the Home-Based Health Care Service for PLWHA in slum area. We find that these people are having no concern with global epidemic by they are worried of their daily lively hood. Majorities of the slummers are aware that this disease kills person after a long period. But at the same time they are not aware that if the PLWHA is mal-nourished and not received proper treatment and care for his/her opportunistic infection, he/she may die within a very short period of time. Thus is the mentality leading to rise the incidence of HIV infections and deaths in the slum-dwelling community. To overcome this problems we have started House to House HIV/AIDS Awareness by the initiating another socio-eco development programme which is the immediate concern and need for their benefit and have succeeded in moulding the slum-dwelling PLWHA. Conclusing: After, all these effort taken we came to the conclusion that NGO can never enter in the HIV/AIDS Awareness programme and Home-Based Care Service in the slum community directly, unless it is having another socio-eco development programme along with it which will be the immediate need and concern of the community. And through such programmes we can avail the opportunity to strive to have Behavior Change in Slum dwelling PLWHA's daily routine life towards HIV/AIDS issues and can put control over the spread.
