PROJECT: In a restrospective study of 5 years we evaluated the level of caloric and proteic intake in 700 HIV Mexican adult patients no during 12 months. Then in a prospective study of five years we evaluate the level of caloric and proteic intake in 700 HIV Mexican adult patients during 12 months the combination of two different enteral formulas and MA, the evaluation of body weight, level of anorexia, Karnofsky Index and anthropometric measurerments was performed in a cohort of 100 patients during 12 months. The morbidity-mortality average was compared with the wasting AIDS patients without this treatment.
RESULTS: In 700 patients we observed that the Mexican patient with AIDS show gustatory disorders in 3% for the CDC1 stage, 18% for CDC2 stage and 87% in the CDC3 stage. The energy intake correlated significantly with weight loss and the sums of skinfold thicknesses. In the 100 patient treated with AM and enteral supplementation, significant differences were observed between feeding groups: the energy intake was increased at 1800 Kcal/day in the supplemented group beside the control group (400 - 700 Kcal/day).
ISSUE: Relationship between the degree of wasting, anorexia, level of caloric-proteic dietary intake in HIV+ Mexican Adult Population. Gustatory disorders, morbiimortality and the effect of the treatment with Acetate Megestrol (MA) and two hypercaloric, hyperproteic enteral formulas.
