OBJECTIVE: Cultural practices as major determinants of HIV infection in Nyanza Province, Kenya. A twelve month study.
METHOD: Education outreach was conducted in TEN different administrative gatherings & modes of transmission explained. Study inco-operated PWHIVs & PWAs at different stages of the disease. The exercise was repeated six & twelve months later and a questionnaire assessment obtained. RESULT: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME.
CONCLUSION: The study revealed little knowledge on the modes of transmission of HIV in the communities upcountry. We need involvement of opinion leaders in persuasion of behaviour change as a component of the fight against AIDS.
